Teaching your dog to complete certain actions by giving them a word or hand signal.
Basic obedience would be things like: sit, down, come when called, and stay. FCCT adds a few more in with the basics to have a well-rounded dog.
We train all levels of obedience. It is never too early or too late to start. This kind of training should begin the day you bring your new dog home.

Training a dog to go to places like nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and other places where the stress relief and the calming effects of a dog is beneficial to the daily life of the people at that location. Basic obedience training begins this kind of training.

Then, introduction to known stimuli that may occur during a therapy session.

Body handling, loose leash walking, prevention, and eradication of bad habits not allowed in therapy sessions like jumping and licking.

Once a dog is ready, training sessions are done in public places that allow pets to see how the dog is doing and what may need to be trained on more before certification.

Identification of what stimuli creates an unwanted behavior or reaction from your dog and how to manage this through either: leashing, crating, separation, other means physical barrier, avoiding situations that create these unwanted behaviors, or changing the scenario in which the stimuli is presented. This is used during the beginning of behavior modification training or whenthe dog is in a situation where training is not possible or has not progressed to handle the level of stimuli presented. *Instant results and less stress in dealing with the dog when you are able to incorporate the management strategy suggested.

Using the information we found during Behavior Management, the dog trainer and owner agree on what the training outcome should look like. The dog trainer then uses several different psychological principles to change the negative association with given stimuli to something positive and provides an action for the dog to do instead of the unwanted behavior if necessary.
*Slow and steady progress. This type of training can take extended periods of time. The faster an unwanted behavior is identified, and training begins, the easier it is to modify. Examples of these unwanted behaviors are separation anxiety, aggression of any type, uncontrollable barking, jumping, etc.

Service dogs are specially trained to assist individuals with disabilities by performing specific tasks tailored to their unique needs. Training typically spans 1 to 2 years and encompasses several key phases:

Socialization and Basic Obedience: Puppies are introduced to various environments, people, and other animals to build confidence and adaptability. They learn fundamental commands like sit, stay, and come.
Public Access Training: Dogs are trained to behave appropriately in public settings, maintaining focus and composure amid distractions. This ensures they can accompany their handlers in various environments without causing disruptions.
Task-Specific Training: Dogs learn tasks directly related to their handler’s disability. Examples include retrieving dropped items, opening doors, alerting to medical conditions like seizures or low blood sugar, and providing deep pressure therapy during anxiety episodes.
Ongoing Maintenance: Regular reinforcement and practice are essential to maintain the dog’s skills and ensure consistent performance.

Training methods focus on positive reinforcement, gradually introducing tasks in controlled environments before practicing in real-world scenarios.

It’s important to note that under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are not required to be certified or registered. However, they must be trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate their handler’s disability.

What To Expect

I’ll teach you how to effectively communicate with and train your pup using proven, positive reinforcement techniques. My approach focuses on helping you understand your dog’s body language and the triggers behind their behavior. With this knowledge, we’ll work together to address unwanted behaviors and build solid obedience skills. Your dog will learn how to learn from humans—and enjoy doing it!

Where We Train: We prefer to begin training in your home. This is usually where your dog feels most comfortable and where many behaviors naturally occur.

Pricing

$35 per session for basic obedience, manners, socialization, leash training, and general behavior issues not related to aggression.
$50 per session for advanced obedience, service/therapy/ESA training, aggression-related behavior modification, or any specialized training that involves potential safety concerns like biting or fighting.
$60+ per session for any session involving 2 or more dogs. Pack manners in the home, group sessions, or any combination of the examples listed above.
